Opiniones

Our experience with my mother was terrible. She was there for a month and a half, and everything imaginable went wrong. The worst part was that she arrived at the hospital dehydrated; according to the doctor, she'd been like that for four days. The staff was insufficient. The medical service made many mistakes in my mother's case. I recommend that you ask to see the rooms before leaving your family members; they leave much to be desired. I would never recommend this residence. Thanks to Jorge and the more senior staff, who are the only good thing about this place.

Look, I don't have a grandmother here, but all I know is that every night you hear one of them screaming at the top of their voices things like I CAN'T. I beg you to do something or at least close the window because it's not normal for her to be screaming from 1 in the morning until 7 in the morning. I'm fed up because she doesn't let you rest and wakes you up all the time with her screams.

I am very grateful for the staff's kindness and dedication. The food is very well prepared and the portions are just right. My father is very well looked after; he often talks about how caring they are with him. I am delighted.

Unfortunately, my family's experience at the **Geriatel** residence was profoundly negative and heartbreaking. My mother, who suffered from cognitive decline, was admitted with the hope that she would receive proper care and attention in an environment described as familiar and trustworthy. However, we soon realized that nothing could be further from the truth. At first, everything seemed to be in order. However, as the days passed, we began to witness multiple lapses in care. One of the first alarming incidents occurred when I found my mother with a severe head injury. No one informed us about the accident, and when we inquired about her condition, the nurses were indifferent, saying that the injury had "just appeared." This lack of empathy and initial neglect raised our concerns. The situation worsened when my mother developed a urinary tract infection. She became extremely lethargic, and when we asked why, we were told it was due to the antibiotic. However, they didn't realize that what was really happening was severe dehydration. That's when a nurse decided to send her to the hospital. At the medical center, we finally discovered the problem, but the nursing home's response was evasive and they didn't take any responsibility for what had happened. One of the most shocking visits was when we found my mother completely asleep and in a semi-conscious state, alone in her room with the door closed, her clothes dirty. She wasn't receiving any care. We requested that her condition be assessed, but when this happened, the incompetent doctor they have on staff didn't know what was wrong with her and couldn't properly assess the patient, which is unbecoming of even a novice in the profession. It wasn't until later that we decided to take her to the hospital, where the doctor informed us that my mother was severely dehydrated and hadn't eaten or drunk anything for several days. The doctors told us that her health had deteriorated critically due to the lack of care at the nursing home. The height of our frustration came when my mother passed away 15 days later in the hospital. When we tried to contact the director of the residence, hoping for at least an apology or explanation, his attitude was completely callous. Instead of taking responsibility, the director blamed the hospital for my mother's death, refusing to acknowledge that the primary cause was the negligence and incompetence of the Geriatel staff. Throughout our stay, we observed that the residence suffered from a severe staff shortage. The few employees who worked there were, for the most part, uninterested, unpleasant, and completely overwhelmed, resulting in many residents being alone and without proper care. Furthermore, the infrastructure problems were evident, with elevators constantly breaking down and being used as freight elevators, forcing residents to be moved without any supervision. The rooms, which we were never shown initially, were deplorable: dilapidated, with peeling paint on the walls and old furniture and blankets. This care home completely fails to meet the basic standards of care and respect that any human being deserves in their final stage of life. In short, our experience at **Geriatel** was one of the most painful and disappointing we have ever had. The lack of professionalism, the dehumanizing attitude of the staff, and the total indifference to the residents' well-being caused my mother to suffer unnecessarily, leading to a tragic end. I would not recommend this care home under any circumstances and feel compelled to warn others so they don't make the same mistake we did. My only thanks go to Jorge for the only good treatment we received from everyone at the care home.

My parents lived at the nursing home during the final stages of their lives. My mother passed away in March 2023, and my father at the end of October 2023. Overall, my opinion of this facility is positive, although, like the vast majority, it could use more healthcare and support staff. However, the staff is very professional and treats residents with a very humane approach. Unfortunately, there are always exceptions; in this case, it is the nurse "Marisol," whose treatment of residents' families could clearly be improved. In short, nothing is perfect, although I would recommend the nursing home to future residents. Thank you very much for taking care of my parents during this time.
