I have expent a week keeping company to my grandmother, and have witnessed enough to want her out in-me-dia-tly. I have witnessed gents parked in corridors for hours or dragging their wheelchair with effort with no one to push them behind. Bored. Crying. See pictures. No help to cut their meals mouth bite to those with shaking hands. I have witnessed canteen staff being rude. They won't properly explain what are the meal options. Witnessed staff lying to a lady about her meal choice, tricking her to believe her memory has failed, so she had to just take what was convenient for the staff. This lead to an employee delaying 8 minutes to assist my grandmother to the toilet because they had not been notified of an update on her "evaluation sheet". I had just arrived and saw my relative peeing them selves on the floor because it was too late to wait. We did not receive a single apologie. I have find out that the Comunidad de Madrid offers a "service cheque " for seniors to hire their own private carer. They can get €400/€700 financial support again the cost of an certified home care company sending a team of carers (they deal with all the recruitment, screening, references, tax, payroll, replacements due to sickness or holiday, etc). This residency costs €2,500. A personalised team of carers (24h /7/365) can cost from €2.280 to €1,280 from the first budged I have requested. I still have to deduce the Madrid Community financial assistance, so we could be paying as little as €780 a month for permanent care at the state of great dependency grandmother is at. I don't have enough space to express all the horror I experienced in this place. I find them irresponsible, treating dependent patients any old way. In the ten days I spent there accompanying my husband, I saw things I'd rather forget, though it's not easy. It's one thing to visit in the afternoons, and quite another to be there all day until ten at night. The spectacle at night is deplorable. I want to emphasize that it's not the fault of the staff, who do what they can. What's shameful is that they maximize profits with minimal expenses. There aren't enough staff, and they're not qualified, contrary to what they like to claim. I won't go on, because I could write a whole book. My husband is no longer in danger, but it pains me to think of the dependent people there alone, with no one to defend them.
