Admitting my father to the Serge Guntín residence in Lugo was one of the hardest decisions of my life. For years I cared for him at home, and we lived with the progression of his illness (Parkinson's and associated dementia). There came a point when his condition worsened; he became disoriented, wandered off, and was in constant danger. I was also physically and emotionally exhausted, and following medical advice, I had to accept that he needed specialized care. My father was only there for a little over a month. On the first day, he fell, and from then on, he spent a lot of time in a wheelchair to prevent him from hurting himself again. I understand it was a safety measure, but for me, it was very painful to see him so vulnerable and to watch him gradually lose mobility until he became bedridden. That part was very hard, and I will always carry it with me. However, I want to highlight the work of the staff. Despite the situation, they always showed patience, respect, and compassion towards him. I traveled from another province, more than an hour and a half away, and went every two or three days, and more often if any problems arose. Whenever I couldn't be with him, they would call me, or I would call them, and they always kept me informed clearly and attentively. When he was admitted to the hospital in Lugo, they notified me and kept me updated at all times. I felt he was in good hands, and that gave me some peace amidst the pain. This decision is never made out of a lack of love. I made it precisely out of love, when I could no longer guarantee his safety at home. I want to sincerely thank those who cared for him during this very difficult time.

I would like to thank the director and all the professionals at the center for their efforts during my aunt's stay, which helped address her difficulties in adapting, and I would like to express my gratitude for the excellent medical care that quickly repaired a complicated wound that took a long time to heal. We considered putting my mother there, and I recommend that anyone currently there leave. The staff were disheveled; one woman was having a medical episode and another resident had to alert the activity coordinator. The woman who attended to us was rude and inconsiderate. The residence is cheap, but you get what you pay for.

The staff are generally good; the worst thing I see is the poor organization due to the lack of personal belongings for the residents, and the management doesn't offer any solutions to these problems 🤷 I think nothing should go wrong in a care home.
