Opiniones

Since I have the option to leave a review, I'll share my opinion about this residence. The price for a shared room is excessive, so here's why: The place is huge, with numerous common areas on each floor (a ton!) and lots of residents everywhere. Some ask for help getting around because they're a bit lost or simply want to be alone. There's a 24-hour doctor, which is a given for the price, but there are no nursing assistants. The reason? "We had to wait for the appointment, it hadn't arrived yet." A nursing home with a doctor and continuous healthcare staff, basic care, promoting independence, and combating loneliness. How easy, and how difficult. We spend the end of our days in the hands of strangers, paying an amount of money we don't have, and we think bigger is better, losing that sense of familiarity and warmth amidst so much construction, really, created to make more money.

My mother only spent a month at Ballesol, but she thoroughly enjoyed the warmth and kindness of the staff, the food, the activities, and the facilities. For me, the service was a 10/10. Every single person who works there showed us so much affection and attentiveness, ensuring that my mother's last days were as wonderful as possible. A huge thank you to all the staff for their magnificent dedication and commitment.

Our experience at Ballesol Gijón was very negative. On our first visit, a social worker attended to us in a friendly and professional manner, explaining the options in detail, showing us the facilities, and instilling confidence in us during a very difficult time. However, when we returned with my father a few days later, the management's treatment was completely different: cold, lacking empathy, and, in our opinion, inappropriate for a senior care facility. We were shocked to hear comments like, "If he left through the door, they couldn't keep him," instead of offering us alternatives or showing any understanding of the situation. We left feeling practically rejected and deeply disappointed. In a place that should convey care, security, and support, we found the exact opposite.

Our bodies, our lives, deteriorate with time. That's why older people are a treasure of humanity who require the best care. Our experience at the Ballesol residence in Gijón, the care and treatment our family member received, was outstanding. They felt right at home. The facilities are excellent and welcoming, and the staff and management were wonderful. Thank you to Montse for taking such good care of us.

I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy, with the exception of some of the assistants, all on the second floor, with a special mention for a Ukrainian girl who is a heaven of a woman, hardworking, a truly professional, according to everyone. The "director" Montse, due to my repeated complaints in her office, even accused me of stealing belongings from the poor residents. The position is too big for her or she needs to get it reviewed. I recorded the accusation without any proof, crazy... a lack of education, humanity, values!! She called me the next day telling me I couldn't go past reception, that they would take my 80-year-old mother with Alzheimer's to pick her up at reception and then walk outside through the neighborhood, raining, cold... a brutal dehumanization!! Judging by the reviews of the aforementioned woman... she has no scruples whatsoever. Since in the contract and as stated by the supervisor Marta, verbatim: we don't have a safe here and even papers disappear here. My mother, who has Alzheimer's, has many valuable jewels, so we act accordingly, without further ado. The center takes no responsibility. As the children and relatives of the residents tell me, she wanted to give herself a makeover, pure surrealism. Notes on a piece of paper about the complaints she made like a first-grader, unbelievable. Of course, if my mother was as she was, half-dressed and completely untidy, she had them dress her and fix her up, logically, in short, paying more than €2,700 out of my own pocket. The only thing and the least you expect is for her to be showered, groomed, cared for... well, no, as all the children, husbands, and wives have said... it leaves a lot to be desired, and there's a lot of fear about going to report these situations, a lot. It feels like a prison with its prison modules and dictatorial rules. I have personally given Bernardo and his colleagues several objects that the poor residents lose due to their cognitive decline or advanced age. The doctor, as they say, was nonexistent, and the nurses didn't even know how to put on a walking boot (I had to show them). I asked for the key downstairs for my mother's room and found it wide open, a shared room. I mean, lots of security cameras, but with brutal insecurity. They're an investment group; there are already four people moving into these Ballesol residences, and as investment groups, all they want is to make money, period. And those of us who are forced to do so due to terrible illnesses, fractures, and so on, go with all the hope in the world, thinking they'll be in good hands, in good condition, and so on. All we ask is that they be treated like what they are: people. And there, I swear I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Honestly, it's a glass palace that's rotten inside. Except for the reception staff, the second floor of the auxiliary staff, and little else. Be safe, there are reviews from many more people. I could be writing about the miseries and calamities that I observed and that I don't like at all, but nothing, since complaining leads to questions and even insinuating that if you are not comfortable here, go away, it's that hard. I could be on until tomorrow since I have also recorded the conversations, photos... and with this I'll end (see reviews) there is a 94 year old man who is with his wife from eleven in the morning until nine in the evening, his wife is practically disabled from the neck down and has cognitive deterioration, she feeds her, changes her posture, carries her on a stretcher, etc., etc., in other words, everything except changing her, totally reportable, and the "director", "medical", "nursing" is not ashamed... I'm not going to tell you what the poor man told me every day. I told it ironically (since it is not liked) to the supervisor. I also think they don't even have a degree, as other reviews suggest, just from hearing them talk... but education is one thing and a degree is another, and neither of them really shows it here... The food is terrible, they go hungry. Clothes are constantly disappearing, is it so difficult to be a "director"??? Best regards and goodbye.
