We've come from IES Príncipe de Asturias with 3rd-year ESO students to participate in an exchange of experiences as part of a project called "Weaving Bonds," between the students and the residents of the CASER residence. Our experience has been wonderful, and it has helped the students learn about other realities that existed in the past and improve their social skills and sense of solidarity.

The care provided at the center is far from adequate, especially for elderly people who can barely care for themselves. In three months, everything imaginable has happened: they would only feed her when we were told we were going to pick her up, my grandmother lost her teeth, she suffered injuries to her legs, they would put grease on her clothes, she was dehydrated, and she even had to fall and go to the emergency room. To make matters worse, after the fall and the transfer back to the residence, she fell again. We all make mistakes, but some things can't be ignored. They should hire specialized staff to care for the people we, unfortunately, cannot. People who are attentive to the elderly and care for them the way we, as family members, believe they do.

My grandmother is currently in this nursing home. In less than two hours, she suffered two falls without the center's staff present. The first fall involved a head injury for which she had to be urgently assessed. After speaking with the center's director, we were assured that a fall protocol would be activated to increase surveillance given the trauma she had suffered. After returning from the emergency room the same afternoon, she suffered another fall less than two hours later. The explanation we were given was that the staff had stepped out briefly, as on the first occasion. At that initial meeting, I offered to file a complaint if I could make an impact on the increase in staff. I was assured that they had just increased the number.

Unfortunately, I must share my negative experience with this nursing home. The care provided at the center is extremely poor. It's alarming that an elderly person suffered two falls within the center in less than two hours, under the care of "specialized personnel." The nursing home claims it's because the center's staff wasn't present, when they should have enough staff to care for all the grandparents. After the first fall, the center's director assured us that a fall protocol would be activated to increase vigilance due to the trauma the grandmother had suffered. However, after returning from the emergency room that same afternoon, the grandmother suffered another fall because the staff left an elderly person alone, who was already very vulnerable after the first fall. We can all make mistakes, but some things can't be overlooked. This nursing home needs to hire specialized staff to care for the grandparents as they deserve. People who are truly attentive to the needs of the elderly and care for them with the attention, respect, and dedication that family members expect and that they claim to provide as a nursing home. I hope this review serves to alert other families and that management takes urgent steps to improve the service.
