Viceroy's Palace Facade of the Viceroy's Palace The palatial house located on Madrid Street is popularly known as the "Viceroy's Palace." It is probably the home of the Barrientos family, whose most important member for Carabaña, Captain Diego Barrientos, is buried in the parish church. Its name derives from the fact that one of Captain Barrientos' relatives, Doctor Diego Barrientos, served the viceroys of New Spain as governor of Tlaxcala (Mexico). Hence the name of the Palace. Illustrious soldiers from the Barrientos family served notable figures in Spanish history, such as Hernán Cortés, the Duke of Alba, and Juan de Austria. Its Renaissance design suggests that it was built in the 16th century. Initially, it was a larger complex, occupying the entire block. One of the side facades overlooks Chávarri Street and the other overlooks Camino de Orusco. With such dimensions, the original palace housed a main space intended for use as a residence, along with a farmhouse with a Toledo-style courtyard. Over the centuries, the property has changed hands, as has its appearance and use. During the Civil War, it was used as a warehouse for materials, and afterward, it was transformed into a prison, and is currently a nursing home. Architecturally, we find ourselves before a building of simple style, with a single-piece brick facade featuring the noble coat of arms and a stone ashlar doorway. Two of the windows retain the old latticework that can be seen on other houses of a similar style, such as the Casa de los Garnica, opposite the east facade of the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady.

The worst care home imaginable, it should be closed. The treatment of residents is appalling; they tie them to columns with clotheslines. The bathrooms are filthy, and some of the staff are terrible and lack the qualifications to care for the elderly. Some residents have their own wheelchairs, but they're placed in others that don't even have footrests. If you're thinking of taking a family member there, think very carefully and look for other care homes.

This nursing home is awful. My mother was only there for seven days, and when I went to collect her clothes, the first thing I noticed was that some of her personal belongings were missing. When I went to her room to get her clothes, they were filthy. They told me she was eating very well, but the first thing they told me at the hospital when she arrived was that she was in very poor condition, completely dehydrated. Unfortunately, she has passed away. I deeply regret leaving her there. I've attached a photo of the room. I wouldn't even give it one star.

A care home that should be closed. My mother was there and they completely abandoned her. After a stroke, she needed more than just basic care, and they didn't provide it. They decided to leave her alone in a room until she arrived in an ambulance, completely dehydrated and in critical condition. There are elderly people who, at the slightest provocation, decide to tie you to a chair with a rope, and then tie the chair to your back. Not to mention a worker named Carolina who comes to work just to go out to the patio to smoke and mistreat the elderly residents. I myself heard her say, "Either you sit down or I'll tie you up." The elderly residents have their own wheelchairs, but the staff does whatever they want with them and gives each person whichever one they want. The day my mother arrived at the hospital, her face was covered in uncleaned mashed potatoes. In short, this care home—if you can even call it that—should be closed.

If you want personalized and efficient care, this is definitely NOT the place. The staff is poorly qualified; a woman who had suffered a stroke needed specific care that they were unable to provide. And the facilities are best left unmentioned—completely neglected.
