Opiniones

Absolutely awful. It's like being forced to live in a hospital corridor. They live in a long, blue hallway with chairs lining the sides. The bedrooms are tiny, with beds crammed together, barely any space. The TV room is large but has a screen too small for its size. It's all stairs. The dining room is depressing, lifeless, like something out of a field. I saw how long it takes to serve dinner to the bedridden residents, how many trays and people it takes to distribute them, and it didn't take more than 10 minutes in total. I left there completely heartbroken. You have to see it to believe it.

Although our mother's stay at the center was unfortunately too short, we are satisfied because she felt cared for and loved at all times. Our thanks to all the staff for the wonderful work they do. Many thanks from her daughters, Ana and Loly.

We admitted my mother, who suffers from stage 6 Alzheimer's, to the Washington Gerontological Center after she had been discharged from the hospital for several days of convalescence. We went to this residence almost as an emergency measure because there was no space available elsewhere, and until then she had been caring for us at home with some outside help. However, after her hospital stay, it was no longer possible to provide her with adequate care at home. Fortunately, the day after we arrived at the Washington, we found a place in a much better facility (hygiene, facilities, etc.). It was pure chance that we got the spot because there was a vacancy that very day. Below, I explain the reason for our dissatisfaction with the Washington: From the moment we entered, the impression was terrible. There are steps in the entrance courtyard, making it difficult for someone with reduced mobility to get in. What I saw inside the building was very run-down: the facilities and furniture were ancient; the rooms and common areas were very small, making it even harder to maneuver a wheelchair, walker, or any orthopedic equipment. The impression was like stepping into a horror movie. That same night, after being admitted, I asked the staff if they could give my mother a full shower the next day, since she had been in bed the entire time in the hospital. They said that of course there was no problem. Well, when we went to pick her up the next day for a doctor's appointment, we realized she hadn't showered (her hair was dirty after so many days in the hospital, so I doubt they had given her a proper full bath). Her diaper wasn't on correctly; frankly, I didn't think it was acceptable to leave a person with a level 3 dependency like that. People deserve to be treated with dignity, regardless of their circumstances. As I mentioned above, luckily we found a place for her in another facility where the hygiene and the facilities were nothing like those at the Washington Residence. I must say, though, that the staff at the Washington were very pleasant (except for the manager), and that's the only positive thing I can say. My mother is now in an ERA (publicly funded care home) and it's definitely not comparable to a private, subsidized one. There's much more staff, the facilities are fully adapted, there's more space to manage the residents, the food is good, etc. It's truly sad and disappointing to find care homes that aren't adapted and don't have enough staff to properly care for the residents.

Very friendly staff, good and varied food. The only thing I think I would add is more common areas and in the summer I would open the dining rooms downstairs so that those who come in can go out and not all be crowded at the entrance, which is the only terrace that is used.

It's extremely unsafe; they always have the door open, there's no security whatsoever, residents can escape and nobody will know, it's extremely dangerous.
