Opiniones

More than a year after my father's passing, I can finally write something to you. I don't understand the negative comments you receive, but I also understand that everyone copes with grief in their own way. I think of you every day, and I assure you that without all of you, I would find no solace. I've been searching for a way to repay you for all your dedication and love during my father's final days for a long time. I think I know how now. I'll let you know soon. I often thought about bringing you a small gift as a token of my gratitude, but nothing seemed enough. A big hug to all the caregivers and the management. If nothing prevents it, we'll see each other soon.

Our mother spent the last six months of her life here, and we want to publicly express our gratitude. We immediately understood that the care was more readily available, more genuine, and more comprehensive here than at home, where the challenges of caring for someone with high dependency needs are multiplied. But above all, we saw a family atmosphere, affection, and patience. This became even more apparent during her final days and nights. Our thanks go to all the staff who cared for her, to the social worker who assisted us, and to the doctor who alerted us in time when the end was near. Paciana Villafranca Anton's Family

Don't be fooled by the nice facilities. It looks like a good residence, but once you go inside, you realize the lack of staff, which is key to good care. If the residents don't cause problems and stay quiet, everything is fine, but as soon as there's any behavioral change, which is common in people with dementia, they immediately resort to restraints (leads) or kick you out, which is what happened with my father. They gave us 15 days to find a psychogeriatric center. In Navarre, there are only three specialized centers, and they usually don't have any openings. They're inflexible about the deadline. If necessary, they'll leave you on the street. Very little ethics and no humanity. From the moment they gave us the letter to evict us, they stopped caring for my father. They left him alone all day in an isolated hallway, tied down. One day we even found him with hypoglycemia, and nobody had noticed. My case is unusual, but it can happen to anyone. Dementia is like that, but they don't seem to understand that it's an illness there, and they've treated him like a naughty child, punishing him. They gave me a report with false information, talking about aggression when in reality it was accidents due to the cognitive decline inherent in the disease. They only want comfortable and manageable residents, despite charging a very high fee: €2,400 a month. With these prices, the lack of staff is outrageous. A former employee recently told me something I haven't been able to verify, but it's quite credible. At night, the 120 residents, spread across three floors, are left in the care of only two caregivers. It's appalling.

Like all publicly funded care homes, there's a staff shortage and they can't cover everything. When you complain, they're ignored; it's just bureaucratic red tape. If you work in a government-run care home like I do, you see the differences. While not perfect, compared to a publicly funded one, they're five-star. Who's in charge of these care homes?

I would like to thank the entire Torre Monreal or San Juan de Dios team. For the care, treatment, and commitment you have shown my mother, Mari Paz. You are great professionals. I'm delighted!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
