The girl with the colorful hair treats humans inhumanely; not even my dog would leave her in that apathetic place. Don't be arrogant; everyone gets old.

The A Ponte Day Center, as is well known, is a socio-cultural center established by the Ourense City Council approximately 10 years ago. It is a modern building, acceptably equipped, but currently, it faces restrictions and its services are rapidly dwindling; the restrictions are increasing daily. Until very recently, it was frequented by elderly people who came morning and afternoon to distribute and read the scarce regional and local newspapers. Today, the elderly have disappeared from the mornings and only appear—in ever-dwindling numbers—for a few hours in the afternoons. Mayor Jácome, in his characteristic distortion and misinterpretation of events, has prohibited the provision of daily newspapers to municipal day centers. Mr. Jácome: reading—regardless of the medium—is culture, information, entertainment, an exercise in memory, and much more, as recommended by psychology and psychiatry. I won't lecture you, nor will I judge you for it, but I will remind you that the more read, better educated, and more informed a people is, the more cultured, active, participatory, and less gloomy they become; psychiatrists say so, I'm not making it up. Therefore, the more and better the means of culture and leisure provided to the public, the greater the distance between them and the need to use public healthcare for psychological or psychiatric issues. And conversely, it will bring politicians closer to them. Mr. Jácome: the annual savings from eliminating newspapers in Day Centers are less than a drop in the ocean, and their impact on annual municipal budgets is negligible. I believe that newspapers don't exist—given the small annual cost involved—because they haven't been favorable to your interests. I tell you, Mr. Jácome: the only obligation the press should have is to the truth. If you have been questioned, it would be for justifiable reasons that you must accept because those are the rules of the democratic game. Your interpretation of the social spending cuts is very far removed from reality and, therefore, detrimental to the public. Unfortunately, this is not the only area where you are mistaken.

The care they provide to our elderly residents is wonderful. The staff are caring, polite, and dedicated to their work. No amount of money can repay them for everything they do for our grandparents.
